Who is Abe?

Abe is a smart financial chatbot who helps you navigate the challenges of money management. Abe can monitor income, keep track of expenses, and help you achieve your savings goals.

How does Abe work?

Abe works through Slack and SMS messaging. As soon as you sign up, Abe will introduce himself and ask you to connect your financial accounts. Once you’ve connected your financial accounts, you can begin asking him your money questions via direct message. Integration with Facebook Messenger and Amazon Alexa is coming soon!

How do I connect my financial accounts?

We securely connect to your financial institution through Yodlee, a financial data provider. When you sign up, Abe will send you a link to securely connect your financial accounts using your standard login credentials. These credentials never touch our servers, and we do not store them in any way.

 

Your credentials are sent through Yodlee to your financial institution, which sends us an encrypted token. This token provides read-only access to your transactions. We cannot move money or make any changes to your account. You can revoke our read-only access token at any time from your dashboard.

How do I update my budget?

Head to the budget section of your dashboard and, if necessary, toggle on/off recurring income or expenses that Abe has automatically identified for you.

What can I ask Abe?

Abe will give you honest answers to a wide variety of questions about your money. Here are a few to get you started:

Budget

  • What can I spend this weekend?
  • How much can I spend this week?
  • How is my budget?

Cash Flow

  • What was my income last month?
  • How much did I spend on Uber last week?
  • What are my latest transactions?

Credit Cards

  • How much credit do I have?
  • When is my credit card bill due?
  • How much do I owe on my credit cards?

Financial Health

  • How much of my income goes to my debts?
  • How’s my 401k doing?
  • How long could I go without working?

Does Abe work with banks outside of the United States?

Unfortunately, no. If you’d like to be notified when we expand to your country, please send an email to contact@abe.ai.

Does Abe cost me anything?

Nope! Abe is completely free to use. After all, Abe wants you to save money, not spend it.

Will my co-workers or my employer see my transactions in a Slack channel?

Absolutely not. All communication with Abe takes place through direct message, so no one can see your information but you.

Is Abe safe?

We take your privacy and the security of your data very seriously. We use a variety of security measures to ensure the safety of your personal information and financial transactions. Communication between Abe and Slack is encrypted using SSL. In addition, all of your data is encrypted using AES256 encryption, a standard used by the U.S. government and banks.
